Coaches


Kevin Edwards, Head Coach, Boys

Kevin Edwards is a beach volleyball player from Trinidad and Tobago.

Kevin made history as a part of the first caribbean team playing in the Swatch FIVB World Tour, the Montreal Open.

Playing with the same partner, he earned the 10th place at the Central American and Caribbean Games beach volleyball tournament.

He has also competed in the North Central American Games, Central American Games, Pan Am Cup, World Cup Qualifiers, Olympic Qualifiers and Caribbean Qualifiers. 

In college he was MVP and and Member of All Conference First Team for NCAA D-3.  During college he was also the Division's statistical champion for most service aces.

Kevin brings a mix of club, high school and college coaching experience to AllStarr. He has coached at New York City College of Technology, Staples High School in Connecticut and National club teams for Trinidad.  He is currently coaching the JV team at The Dalton School and the Men's Varsity Team at Polytechnic Institute of New York. 

Vanessa Charles, Asst Coach, 17-2s 

Assistant Coach Vanessa Charles played High School Volleyball in St. Lucia, where in 1994 she won Female Volleyball Player of the year, and also female athlete of the year (she was a 3 sport athlete).  She also played for the St. Lucia Junior National team from 1992- 1994. She was awarded an Athletic Scholarship to play volleyball at St. Francis College and pursued a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Promotion with a minor in Physical Education (Exercise Physiology).

Vanessa's coaching career began in 2004 as Head Coach of the JV Marymount Lady Tigers, where she coached for 4 years. Since then her coaching career has led her to Berkeley Carroll and now a proud member of the FIT coaching staff.

Tony Foo, Head Coach, 15s

Tony was a starter for Baruch College from 1993-1997.  Following graduation he was the captain of New York Strangers in the Garden Empire Volleyball Association.  He also played 9Man in New York City beginning in 1997. 

His coaching experience includes club with NYC Juniors from 1999-2002 and high school for Dalton School as the varsity assistant coach from 2002-2005 and again in 2008.

Brittany Fout, Co-Coach, 18s

Brittany FoutBrittany Fout enters her first season as head coach of the women’s volleyball program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Though in her first season, Fout is no stranger to the program. Last season, she served as assistant coach for the program.

Prior to her coaching days with the Bloodhounds, Fout, a native of Cantor, Ohio, is a 2005 graduate of Ohio University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology & Athletic Training. Prior to that, Fout attended Ashland University, a Division II program in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and was a two-year member of the women’s volleyball team and earned GLIAC All-Academic honors.

 

Rony Gilot, Head Coach, 16s

Rony Gilot started his volleyball career playing for the varsity men’s volleyball team at Queens College, a Division 2 team in Flushing, New York. 

Rony has extensive experience with coaching and administrating for USA Volleyball’s Junior Division under the Garden Empire Volleyball Association.  Most recently he was the former administrator and club director for the Creole Big Apple Adult Volleyball Club for 10 years.  He also coached for Creole Big Apple Juniors (15s, 16s, 17s and 18s) and NYC Juniors (18s).

He also brings collegiate coaching experience to AllStarr Volleyball.  He coached for Saint Francis College, a Division 1 program of the Northeast Conference located in downtown Brooklyn, where he was the assistant coach for three years before serving as the head coach for four years.

Currently, Rony plays on teams in the New York Big City League and Garden Empire Volleyball Association (GEVA).  Over the last six years, his GEVA team has won two gold and one silver championship in USA Volleyball’s Adult National Championships.

Collin Henry, Head Coach, 17s

Bio

Braeden Henry, Head Coach, 17-2s

Braeden, a native of Antigua, has been playing volleyball for the past 14 years.  He made the Junior National Team at age 17 and later the Senior National Team and competed in various tournaments and invitationals.  He played club volleyball at Ohio University and has played competitively in the NY Urban Professional League for the past 6 years. 

Braeden coached the Christ The King High School volleyball team (Antigua) and The Wings Womens Volleyball team also in Antigua. Braeden served as the assistant coach at Medger Evers College male and female volleyball team and he has also coached with Nyc Juniors Volleyball Club. 

He has participated in four FIVB sanctioned SAP courses conducted by Canadian Coach Paul Brasson.

He looks forward to working with the Allstarr Volleyball club for many years to come.

Kelsey Huntoon, Assistant Coach, 16s

Kelsey Huntoon is a sophomore at Manhattan College. She is a member of the college's divison one women's volleyball team. Kelsey attended St. Mary Catholic Central High School in Monroe, Michigan, where she earned varsity letters in volleyball, soccer, and basketball. She played club ball at Premiere Volleyball Academy in Maumee, Ohio, competing at the national level. Last year, Kelsey was a co-coach of the New York City Juniors' 16-2's squad. Her other volleyball coaching experiences include youth clinics and high school team camps in Michigan. 

 

Valerie Langlois, Head Coach, 14s

Valerie is a self taught player, and considered one of the best defensive in the metropolitan area.  Born and raised in France, her first sports were European handball and soccer.  At 20 she started playing volleyball for the first time and played recreationally for 3 years in Paris before she came to New York in December 2000 and joined the professional leagues of Big City and New York Urban.  In 2003, she was offered an opportunity to tryout for a professional team in Turkey, but declined the offer due to potential immigration issues.  In 2006, she was the libero for the New York Open Team at the Empire State Games where they took gold place. 

Currently Valerie plays competitive volleyball both indoors (New York Urban Professionals and GEVA) and outdoors (grass and beach doubles).

In 2009 she coached the National qualifying 15s team of NYC Juniors under Collin Henry. In 2010 she was the assistant coach for AllStarr Volleyball 15s.

 

Edeana Martinez, Assistant Coach, 17s

Edeana Martinez played at the college of Mount Saint Vincent as a middle hitter from 2004-2008.  During her junior and senior year of college, she worked with the Greenburgh Parks and Recreation Summer Camps as a Volleyball Specialist teaching kids the basics of the game.  Upon graduation she was hired as the junior varsity head coach at Woodlands High School in Greenburgh, NY for two seasons.  She is currently the assistant coach for the Women's Volleyball team at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

 

Andrew Woolward, Co-Coach, 18s

Andrew Woolward played for Brooklyn College in 1998 as a freshman student-athle

te on the men's volleyball team. After an accomplished career as a player, Woolward joined the staff of Felix Alberto as an assistant coach of the men's Volleyball team. In 2004, Woolward was named head coach of the men's volleyball team and has led the team to a great deal of success in his four years at the helm. His career record is an impressive 48-38, including two appearances in the Northeast Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) postseason tournament (2005 & 2007) and a berth in the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason tournament; a fist in school history.

As a four-year player at Brooklyn College, Woolward was a member of the 1998 nationally ranked CUNYAC championship squad. A tremendous outside hitter, Woolward ranked nationally in kills per game, digs per game and service aces per game in 1999, 2000 and 2001. He was named to the CUNYAC AII-Conference 1st Team in 1999, 2000 and 2001. And, to the NECVA second team in 2001.

Woolward received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Brooklyn College in 2001 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus in 2005. Woolward currently works as an occupational therapist within the Special Education School District of the New York City Department of Education and continues to play recreationally in local leagues and tournaments. 

Ethan "HeFu" Yu, Assistant Coach, 14s

Personal Experience

Ethan "Hefu" Yu began playing volleyball at the early age of 12 in Tai Shan, China, a tight-knit volleyball community credited for the origin of volleyball in China.  Hefu started his volleyball career as a setter, but his playing, coaching and referee experience has made him an all-around volleyball athlete. 

Hefu came to New York City at the age of 15 and attended Seward Park High School.  As a freshman he made the Varsity Volleyball team and became the starting setter, a role that continued for the rest of his high school experience.  During this time his team made the New York City Championships and ranked in the top four in the city.  In 2004, he was selected as MVP of the 'Class of 2004' Seniors Game in New York City.

In 2003, while still in high school, he became part of the 9-Man volleyball team under the New York Strangers Sports Association and played with the New York Strangers in the Garden Empire Volleyball Association (GEVA). He still continues to play competitively both indoors (VBLI and New York Urban Professionals Athletic League) and outdoors (9-Man and NACIVT), in addition to serving as a collegiate and amateur referee.


Coaching Experience

Upon high school graduation, Hefu served as assistant coach for Seward Park High School from 2005-2008 for both the Boy’s and Girl’s Varsity Volleyball teams. During that time, he also coached several developmental volleyball programs in New York. In 2008, he was appointed head coach for the New York Stranger Girl's Volleyball club teams and has been coaching youth ever since.

In addition to coaching youth volleyball, Hefu serves as the Director of Players Operation for the New York Strangers Sports Association (NYSSA) for volleyball.

 

Coaching Philosophy

AllStarr Volleyball is committed to offering the best skills training possible in New York City.  We have recruited a coaching staff that brings collegiate, high school and club coaching experience, in addition to college playing experience. 

Executive Director Collin Henry will serve as a consultant to all coaches to ensure that a uniform philosophy and strategy is applied to every single AllStarr team to enable a fluid succession each year.
